Let's Discuss Your Business Needs

Book a Virtual Visit

A pool is a $70,000 decision, and most South East Queensland homeowners still choose their builder from whoever paid for the top ad. SEQ Pool Builders is Titan Blue’s answer to that: our own business initiative, an independent directory that checks every builder against the QBCC licence register and the Australian Business Register, ranks them on real Google reviews, and answers the cost questions homeowners actually ask. It is a core part of our AEO strategy, and it gives every honest builder in the region a place where their licence and reviews speak for them. We designed it, built it, filled it with verified data and launched it in under a week.

The short answer

SEQ Pool Builders (seqpoolbuilders.com.au) is a Titan Blue business initiative: a directory for one high value trade in one region, owned and run by us. We handled everything: the brand and logo, the design, the WordPress build, the data pipeline, the licence verification, the content, the search and AI search setup, and the commercial side that lets builders claim listings and take sponsored spots.

  • 174 pool builders listed from 194 candidates, across Brisbane, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, Logan, Moreton Bay, Ipswich, Redland City, the Scenic Rim, Noosa and the Tweed Coast
  • 106 builders verified against the public QBCC licence register, with the licence number shown on their profile
  • 115 listings carry a confirmed ABN from the Australian Business Register
  • 84 location pages (10 regions plus 74 suburbs) and 10 pool type pages, each opening with a direct answer and real counts
  • A Queensland pool cost guide with an interactive calculator and 28 numbered sources
  • Launched 30 October 2026, with all 290 public pages submitted to Google and Bing on day one

Why would a digital agency build its own directory? Two reasons. It puts our AEO (answer engine optimisation) method to work on an asset we own, where we control every page, every data point and every test. And it builds trust for the whole category: homeowners get a fair, sourced shortlist, and good builders get credit for the licences and reviews they have earned, instead of being outspent by whoever buys the top ad.

The idea: a directory homeowners can actually trust

Pool building in South East Queensland has a trust problem. It is a large, infrequent purchase. Most homeowners buy one pool in their life, so they have no experience to judge a builder on. The obvious places to look are ads, which rank builders by budget, and generic trade directories, which list anyone who fills out a form.

The goal was simple to state and hard to execute:

  • A directory that looks premium, so a homeowner about to spend $70,000 trusts it from the first screen
  • Every claim on the site backed by a public record, not by what a builder says about itself
  • Built for AI search from day one, so it can be the source that ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode quote when someone asks who to call
  • A working business model: quote requests, listing claims and clearly labelled sponsored placements

That third point is the strategic one. When we track AI answers for our own industry, the sources AI Mode quotes are very often directories and review sites, not the businesses themselves. A well built, well sourced directory is exactly the kind of page answer engines like to cite. Pool builders were picked for the first build because the job value is high, directory competition is weak, and Queensland publishes the licence data needed to verify every builder.

Step one: the data came before the design

Most directories start with a template and wait for listings. We did it the other way round. A directory is only as good as its data, so the first two days were spent building the dataset.

Finding every builder

We searched Google’s business data across every SEQ region and suburb cluster for pool builders, pool construction companies and pool and landscape firms. That produced 194 candidates. Each candidate’s website was then crawled and read to work out what it actually builds (concrete, fibreglass, plunge, infinity edge, lap pools, renovations, spas), which areas it serves, and how long it has been trading. Businesses that turned out not to build pools, or that only work far outside SEQ, were removed. 174 made the cut.

Checking every licence

In Queensland, residential pool work needs a licence from the Queensland Building and Construction Commission. The QBCC publishes its licence register, so every one of the 174 businesses was matched against it, by licence number where a business publishes one and by business name where it does not.

A builder only earns the QBCC licence verified badge when the match is confirmed and the licence is active in a relevant class: pool, builder or structural landscaping. 106 builders passed. Their licence number appears on their profile so a homeowner can check it themselves.

The other 68 are still listed, without a badge. Many are well known operators trading under a different company name to the one on their licence, and builders from the Tweed Coast hold New South Wales licences that the QBCC register does not cover. Hiding them would make the directory less useful. Badging them would be a claim we cannot back. So they are listed, unbadged, and can claim their listing to get verified.

Checking every business

Separately, ABNs were checked against the Australian Business Register. 115 listings now show an active ABN and the year it was registered, which doubles as an honest “trading since” figure. Street addresses are hidden for every builder, because many run from home. Profiles show the suburb only.

Every claim on a builder card comes from a public record: the QBCC register, the ABR, or Google reviews.

Step two: a ranking method anyone can check

A directory that sells placements has an obvious credibility problem. If the top spot can be bought, the ranking means nothing. So the ranking and the sponsorship were separated completely, and the method was published on the site at How we rank.

  • Google rating weighted by review volume. A 5.0 from four reviews should not beat a 4.8 from 270. Across the directory, 158 builders have a Google rating, drawing on 4,987 reviews in total.
  • Licence check. Verified builders score higher than unverified ones.
  • Track record. Years trading, taken from the ABN registration date.
  • Sponsored spots are always labelled. They appear in their own clearly marked panel and never change the ranked order.

This matters for people and for machines. A homeowner can see why a builder is first. An AI system deciding whether to trust and quote a page can see a stated method, sourced claims and a clear line between editorial and paid. Both are signals that make a page safer to cite.

Step three: design that sells the product

Pools are an aspirational purchase. The site needed to feel like the end result, not like a phone book. We developed a design direction called “Lagoon Editorial”: deep water tones, warm sand backgrounds, an elegant serif for headings and a clean sans serif for everything else.

  • A video hero of an infinity pool looking over the Gold Coast skyline, with a headline that reveals word by word and a frosted glass search bar for region and pool type
  • A scroll story where an underwater photo grows from a card to full screen while the three trust promises (licence checked, business confirmed, ranked never sold) appear over it
  • A region grid that puts all ten regions on screen at once, each with a photo matched to that area
  • A pool type explorer where hovering a type swaps the photo and shows its price range, the number of builders offering it and the build time
  • A cost estimator on the homepage that turns a pool type and finish level into a likely price and leads straight into a quote request
  • A new logo, “Mosaic”, built from pool tiles, applied to the header, favicon and every email

None of it relies on heavy outside libraries. All the animation is hand written, fonts load from the site itself, the video only starts after the page has loaded (and is skipped on slow connections and data saver), and every moving element stands still for anyone who has reduced motion switched on in their phone settings.

Mobile first, where the searching happens

Most homeowners start this search on a phone, often while looking at their own backyard. On mobile the site gets a full screen menu, swipeable region cards, and a “compare up to 3 free quotes” bar that stays at the bottom of the screen on every page, so the next step is always one tap away.

Step four: built for AI search from the first line of code

This is where the build differs most from a normal website. Every page was designed to be the clearest answer to a specific question, and to be easy for an AI system to read, trust and quote.

Answer first, with real numbers

Every region and suburb page opens with a direct answer built from live data. The Gold Coast page, for example, starts by saying how many builders are listed, who the top three are with their ratings and review counts, how many licences were verified and what a typical pool costs there. That is exactly the shape of answer an AI system lifts into a response, and it is regenerated whenever the underlying data changes, so it never goes stale.

Structured data that says what the page is

Region pages carry an ItemList of their ranked builders plus FAQ markup. Builder profiles describe the business, its location and its QBCC licence as a credential issued by a government body. Every page has breadcrumbs. This is the machine readable version of the trust story, and it is what lets search engines and AI systems connect a builder to a verified licence without guessing.

A cost guide worth citing

“How much does a pool cost in Queensland?” is the question almost every homeowner asks first. The pool cost guide answers it in the first paragraph, then goes deep: an interactive calculator, cost ranges by pool type and by region, a breakdown of where the money goes, extras, running costs, a build timeline, a pre-signing checklist and nine FAQs. Every dollar figure either cites one of 28 numbered sources or is clearly marked as our estimate. Region pages use the same ranges, so the site never contradicts itself.

Guides for the questions that come next

Eight launch guides cover the follow up questions: fibreglass versus concrete, how long a pool takes to build, Queensland pool fencing and safety certificates, how to check a builder’s QBCC licence, plunge pools, and local cost guides for Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. The site also publishes an llms.txt file, a plain language map of the directory written for AI systems.

Getting found fast

Launch day plumbing matters more than people think. The sitemap went to Google Search Console, the site was verified in Bing Webmaster Tools, and IndexNow was set up so every new or updated page notifies Bing and other engines automatically. All 290 public URLs were pushed on day one. Bing’s index feeds several AI assistants, so this is AI search work as much as SEO. GA4 tracks every quote request and sign up as a conversion from the first visit.

Step five: a business model built in

A directory has to pay for itself. The commercial side was built alongside the public side, not bolted on later.

  • Quote requests from homeowners, sent to up to three licence checked builders who work in their area
  • Claim your listing, so builders can correct details, add a logo and photos, and get verified
  • Builder verification badges that builders can place on their own websites, linking back to their profile, which also earns the directory links from real trade sites
  • Sponsored placements in each region and pool type, capped at three per region, always labelled, with live availability shown on the advertise page and recurring billing through the site’s own checkout
  • Branded HTML emails for every form, plus newsletter lists for homeowners and builders

How it powers Titan Blue’s AEO strategy

We tell clients that AI answer engines cite sources that are clear, consistent and backed by evidence. SEQ Pool Builders is that advice built out in full, on a site we own outright.

  • A live testing ground. Every structured data pattern, answer first page layout, llms.txt approach and indexing setup is tried here first. What works is rolled into the websites we build for clients.
  • A category level source. When someone asks ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI Mode who builds pools in Brisbane or what a pool costs in Queensland, answer engines look for pages that compare options and cite their sources. A directory is built to be that page, which no single business site can be.
  • Proof, not theory. When we explain AEO web design to a prospect, we can show a working example rather than a slide.

How it builds trust for every builder

The directory is designed to be fair to the whole trade, not just the builders with the biggest ad budgets.

  • Rankings are earned. Order is set by verified licences and real Google reviews. Nobody can buy a higher rank.
  • Licences are shown, not claimed. 106 builders carry a QBCC verified badge with their licence number on their profile, so a homeowner can check it in seconds.
  • Every builder can get verified. The 68 builders without a badge are still listed and can claim their listing, correct their details and complete verification.
  • Builders can take the trust with them. Verified builders get a badge for their own website that links back to their profile, so the proof follows them wherever homeowners find them.
  • Paid is always labelled. Sponsored spots sit in their own marked panel and never change the ranked order.

What other local businesses should take from this

1. Proof beats promises

Every trust claim on SEQ Pool Builders points to a public record. Your business has its own version: licences, certifications, reviews, completed projects, years trading. Put the proof on the page, next to the claim, where both people and AI systems can see it.

2. Answer the first question in the first sentence

“How much does it cost?” and “Who is good near me?” are the two questions behind almost every local search. Pages that answer them directly, with real numbers, are the pages Google ranks and AI quotes.

3. Design is part of the trust signal

For a big purchase, people judge credibility in seconds. A site that looks like the outcome the customer wants earns more time, and more time means more quote requests.

4. Plan for AI search on day one

Structured data, a clear method, consistent figures across every page, fast indexing and an llms.txt file cost very little at build time and are painful to retrofit. This is the core of what we now call AEO web design.

Frequently asked questions

How long did SEQ Pool Builders take to build?

Under a week from an empty WordPress install to a live directory with 174 builders, 84 location pages, a full cost guide and eight guides. The speed came from building the data pipeline first, so the pages could be generated from verified data rather than written one at a time.

How do you verify a pool builder’s licence in Queensland?

Search the QBCC licence register by licence number or business name and confirm the licence is active in a class that covers pool work. SEQ Pool Builders does this for every listed builder and shows the licence number on verified profiles.

Why build a directory instead of a single business website?

Because AI answer engines and Google often prefer to cite sources that compare several options. A well sourced directory can become that source for a whole category in a region, which no single business site can do.

Can Titan Blue build something like this for my industry?

Yes. The same approach (public record verification, answer first location pages, structured data and a built in lead model) suits any trade or service where the job value is high and customers struggle to tell good providers from bad ones.

Who owns SEQ Pool Builders?

SEQ Pool Builders is a Titan Blue business initiative. We designed, built and run it as part of our AEO strategy, and it is independent of every builder it lists: no builder can pay to change its ranking.

The bottom line

SEQ Pool Builders shows what happens when a website is planned around verified data and real questions instead of a template. In under a week it went from an idea to a premium, licence checked directory of 174 builders. For homeowners it is a fair, sourced shortlist. For builders it is a place where licences and reviews count for more than ad spend. For Titan Blue it is the clearest working proof of how we build for AI search.
