Answer engine optimisation (AEO) services make your website easy for AI answer engines such as Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT and Perplexity to find, understand and quote when a buyer asks a question about what you sell. A proper AEO service covers question research, answer-first page rewrites, structured data that matches the visible text, entity and trust signals, internal linking and monthly measurement. Titan Blue delivers this through our AEO services, quoted to scope for Australian businesses.
This guide is the practical version: what the work is made of, how to tell a good provider from a vague one, what you can and cannot measure, and how an engagement runs month by month. It deliberately includes our own numbers, including the unflattering ones.
Key Takeaways
- AEO is not a trick. Google says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode beyond being indexed and eligible to show with a snippet, so AEO is disciplined execution of fundamentals plus clearer answers.
- A real AEO service has seven parts: question research, answer-first content, structured data, entity and trust signals, internal linking, technical access and measurement.
- Nobody can guarantee a mention in an AI answer. Be wary of any provider that does, and ask what they will report on instead.
- Our own tracking on 25 October 2026 is a useful reality check: Titan Blue was named in 3 of 11 usable Google AI Mode prompts and cited as a source in none, which is exactly the gap we work to close for clients.
- AEO works best alongside SEO, GEO and a website built to be extracted, not as a standalone purchase.

What Are Answer Engine Optimisation Services?
Answer engine optimisation services are the ongoing and project work that shapes your website so an AI system can lift a clear, correct answer from it and attribute that answer to you. An answer engine is any tool that responds to a question with a direct answer rather than a list of links, including Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT search, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot and voice assistants.
The idea is simple. When someone in Perth asks “how long does a bathroom renovation take” or someone in Melbourne asks “who should I see about a sore knee”, the engine builds an answer from pages it can read. AEO is the discipline of making sure your pages are among those it can read, trust and use.
It is closely related to SEO and generative engine optimisation (GEO). We explain the differences in our SEO vs AEO vs GEO comparison and define the term from scratch in What Is Answer Engine Optimisation?. This page is different: it is about the service itself, meaning what you actually receive.
How Do AI Answer Engines Decide What to Quote?
Google’s own documentation says AI Overviews and AI Mode may use a technique called query fan-out, which issues multiple related searches across subtopics and data sources to build a response. That detail shapes how AEO is done, because it means one buyer question is really several smaller questions answered by several pages.
Google’s AI features and your website guide also states that to be eligible as a supporting link, a page must be indexed and eligible to be shown in Google Search with a snippet, and that there are no additional technical requirements. It adds that you do not need to create new machine-readable files, AI text files or special markup to appear.
That guidance removes a lot of noise from the market. It tells you what AEO is not: it is not a secret file, a plugin or a prompt. It is the careful application of what Google already asks for, applied at the level of the individual question.
- Crawlable and indexed. Robots.txt, your host and any CDN must allow crawling, and the page must be indexable.
- Answers in text. Important content has to be present as readable text, not locked in images, sliders or scripts.
- Structured data that matches the page. Markup must reflect what is visibly on the page.
- Helpful, people-first content. The same standard Google sets in its guidance on helpful, reliable content.
- Fast, stable pages. Page experience is part of the same fundamentals, and web.dev’s Web Vitals guidance explains the Core Web Vitals measures.
What Is AEO Made Of? The Seven Components
A complete AEO service is made of seven components, each with a concrete deliverable you can ask to see. If a proposal cannot be mapped to this list, find out what is actually being sold.
| Component | What we do | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Question research | Build an inventory of the real questions buyers ask before, during and after choosing a supplier, grouped by topic | AI engines break a question into sub-questions. You cannot answer what you have not listed |
| 2. Answer-first content | Rewrite or create pages so the first one or two sentences of each section answer the question directly | Extractable answers are easy to quote. Buried answers are skipped |
| 3. Structured data | Add and validate schema.org markup (Organization, Service, Article, and question and answer markup where the page genuinely contains them) that matches visible text | Gives machines an unambiguous label for who you are and what a page says |
| 4. Entity and trust signals | Make your business name, services, locations, people, reviews and credentials consistent across your site and profiles | Engines are more willing to quote a business they can clearly identify |
| 5. Internal linking | Connect answers to the service pages they support, using descriptive anchors | Helps crawlers and readers move from a short answer to the full offer |
| 6. Technical access | Check robots.txt, indexability, rendering, page speed and Core Web Vitals | A page that cannot be crawled or snippeted cannot be a supporting link |
| 7. Measurement | Track impressions and clicks in Search Console and test a fixed set of buyer questions on a schedule | You cannot manage what you do not measure, and AI answers vary |
The first two components do most of the work. A clean technical foundation matters, but it is the question inventory and the answer-first rewrites that visibly change what an engine can quote.

What Does Answer-First Content Look Like in Practice?
Answer-first content opens each section with the direct answer in plain language, then supports it with detail, evidence and next steps. If a reader or an engine only sees the first two sentences, they should still leave with something correct and useful.
Compare two ways of opening a page for a Sydney accounting firm. The weak version begins with the firm’s history and values. The strong version begins with “A sole trader needs to lodge a tax return every year if their income is above the tax-free threshold, and the practice below explains the steps.” The second is a complete answer that a human or a machine can lift.
Good AEO content also follows a few habits:
- Headings are written as the question a buyer would ask, not as a clever label.
- Paragraphs are short, usually two to four sentences, so each one stands alone.
- Comparisons use tables and processes use numbered steps, so structure carries meaning.
- Claims are specific to the business and verifiable, rather than generic adjectives.
- Pages avoid unverifiable statistics. A number without a source is a liability, not an asset.

What Separates a Good AEO Provider From a Bad One?
A good AEO provider is specific, honest about limits, and measurable. A poor one sells mystery. Because AEO is a young category and the vocabulary is crowded, buyers need a short list of questions that expose the difference.
- They do not guarantee mentions. AI answers vary by prompt, by day and by model. Google itself says indexing and serving is never guaranteed. Any promise of a guaranteed citation is a red flag.
- They can show deliverables. Ask for a sample question inventory, a before and after page rewrite, and a measurement report. Real work leaves artefacts.
- They start with fundamentals. If the first proposal item is a special AI file or tool, ask why, given Google’s statement that none is needed.
- They measure honestly. Reports should show Search Console impressions and clicks, plus a fixed prompt set with clear dates and sample sizes. “We tested one prompt and it worked” is not evidence.
- They respect your content. Answers must be accurate and sourced. Inventing statistics to look authoritative undermines the trust AEO depends on.
- They connect AEO to the rest of your marketing. AEO on a slow, thin website will underperform, and a good provider will say so.
- They are transparent about scope. You should know which pages, how many questions and what monthly output you are buying.

What Can You Measure, and What Does Our Own Data Show?
You can measure AEO in two ways: traffic data you control, and repeated question tests you design. Neither is perfect, so a good report shows both and explains the limits.
Google confirms that sites appearing in AI Overviews and AI Mode are included in overall Search Console traffic, reported in the Performance report under the Web search type. That means you can track impressions and clicks for the pages you are improving, but you cannot isolate AI answers as a separate line.
We apply the same discipline to ourselves, and the results are not all flattering. Here is what our own data showed when we checked it for this article.
- Our AEO service page, Search Console, 29 July to 25 October 2026: 2,749 impressions, 4 clicks, and an average position of 16.6. In plain terms, the page is being shown, but on average it sits on the second page of Google, so it earns few clicks. That is our own work still to do.
- Our weekly Google AI Mode prompt test, 25 October 2026: across 12 buyer-style prompts, 11 returned a usable answer. Titan Blue was named in 3 of those 11, including one prompt that asked about us by name, and was cited as a source link in none. Neither of our two AEO-themed prompts named us.
Treat that as one tool, one day and one set of prompts, not a verdict on the market. It still tells us something useful: being a specialist and publishing about AEO is not the same as being the answer. The work is in the detail, and the measurement is what shows where to put effort.

What Are the Benefits of AEO for Australian Businesses?
The main benefit of AEO is that your business becomes quotable at the moment a buyer asks a question, which is increasingly the moment a supplier is shortlisted. The secondary benefits are better pages for human readers, stronger conversion from the visits you already get, and a content base that supports SEO as well.
- Visibility in more places. Google says AI features give more types of sites opportunities to appear, with links to supporting pages.
- Clearer pages convert better. A page that answers the question quickly also helps a human visitor decide faster.
- Stronger local and national relevance. Entity and trust work helps whether you serve a Brisbane suburb or ship Australia-wide.
- A content library that keeps working. Well-structured answers stay useful as engines change.
- Early-mover room. Many Australian sites in a given industry publish only a services page, which leaves space for a business that answers properly.
Who AEO suits
AEO suits businesses where buyers research before they call: professional services, health practices, trades, tourism and accommodation, legal and financial services, education providers, and considered-purchase ecommerce. It also suits any business whose competitors are already named in AI answers.
Who AEO does not suit yet
If your website is not indexed, is very thin, or has no clear offer, fix that first. AEO sits on top of a working site. Impulse-purchase businesses with little research behaviour also see smaller gains than considered-purchase ones.
How Does an AEO Engagement Work With Titan Blue?
An AEO engagement with Titan Blue runs in four stages: audit, plan, build and measure. Titan Blue is an Australian digital agency founded in 2001 and based in Broadbeach, Queensland, and we work with clients across the country, so the process is run remotely with regular video calls.
- Audit. We check crawl access, indexing, page speed, structured data and how your key pages read as answers.
- Plan. We build the question inventory, choose priority pages and agree a written scope.
- Build. We rewrite and create answer-first content, add validated structured data, strengthen entity signals and improve internal links.
- Measure. We report on Search Console impressions and clicks and on a fixed prompt set, then adjust.
| Stage | Typical timing | What you receive |
|---|---|---|
| Audit | Week 1 to 2 | Written findings and a prioritised fix list |
| Plan | Week 2 to 3 | Question inventory, page priorities and agreed scope |
| Build | Week 3 onwards, in monthly batches | Rewritten and new pages, validated markup, linking improvements |
| Measure | Monthly | Search Console report and prompt-test summary with dates and sample sizes |
AEO fees are quoted to scope, because the right amount of work depends on how many pages and questions matter to your business. We would rather scope accurately than guess. If you would like to see how the approach applies to a build, read about AEO web design in Australia.

What Works Best With AEO?
AEO performs best when it is combined with the services that supply what it cannot: a findable site, a strong search foundation and outside mentions. Each combination below solves a different weakness.
- SEO. Engines draw on indexed, snippet-eligible pages, so SEO supplies the foundation. Our SEO services start from $770 per month (excluding GST).
- GEO. Generative engine optimisation builds the outside signals, such as reviews and third-party mentions, that AI models weigh before recommending a brand. AEO shapes your pages, GEO shapes your reputation around them.
- AEO web design. A site built to be extracted from day one costs less to optimise later. See traditional web design vs AEO web design for the difference.
- AI Ready Check. A fast, low-friction way to see where your site stands before committing to a scope.
The combination outperforms AEO alone because answer engines need three things at once: a page they can read, a reason to trust it, and a business they can identify. One service rarely supplies all three.
What Results Has Titan Blue Delivered?
Titan Blue has published four client case studies on search results. These cover our search work generally, including SEO and content that answer engines also read, and we cite the figures exactly as they appear on each page rather than attributing them to AEO alone.
| Client | Published result | Case study |
|---|---|---|
| QLD Honey and Hives | Organic clicks from 23 to 400+ a month, page 5 to page 1, online orders up 162% | Read the case study |
| CarbonHalo | Organic clicks from 5 to 300+ a month, page 6 to top 3 for commercial terms | Read the case study |
| Mad Over Italian | Organic clicks from 368 to 2,767 a month, position 1 across both venues | Read the case study |
| Eat at ROBs | Ranking 11th to position 1 against national publishers | Read the case study |

Why Enquire About AEO Now?
The case for acting now rests on how search is changing, not on a deadline. Google remains where most Australian searches begin, and Google is placing AI features on top of those same results, so the pages that earn visibility there are the ones that are clear and already well indexed.
89.53%
Google’s share of search engine use in Australia across September 2025 to September 2026, with Bing at 7.6%, according to Statcounter Global Stats (September 2026). The figure covers traditional search engines and does not count AI assistants.
Three practical reasons support starting sooner rather than later:
- Control now exists, and visibility is a choice. Google’s Search generative AI control, rolled out to all websites worldwide as of 31 August 2026, lets you include or exclude your site’s links and content from AI Overviews, AI Mode and Discover. Including your site is the default, so your content is already eligible. The question is whether it is worth quoting.
- Competitors are often slow. Many sites publish a services page and little else. Clear answers are still a differentiator.
- Content compounds. Pages written well today keep working while engines change, and measurement from today gives you a baseline.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are AEO services?
AEO services are the work of making your website easy for AI answer engines to find, understand and quote. They typically include question research, answer-first content, structured data, entity and trust signals, internal linking, technical checks and monthly measurement.
How much do AEO services cost in Australia?
It depends on the number of pages and questions that matter to your business, so Titan Blue quotes AEO to scope after an audit. Treat any provider that gives a fixed price without looking at your site with caution.
How long does AEO take to show results?
Early changes such as rewritten pages and fixed technical issues can be picked up as Google recrawls, but visible movement in impressions usually takes months, and it varies by site and industry. Anyone promising a specific timeframe is guessing.
Is AEO worth it for a small business?
It can be, if your customers research before they buy and your site is already working. A small business can often win by answering specific local or niche questions clearly. If your site is thin or not indexed, fix those basics first.
How do I appear in Google AI Overviews?
Google says a page must be indexed and eligible to show in Search with a snippet, and that there are no additional technical requirements. In practice that means crawlable pages, helpful and clear text, matching structured data and good page experience. Appearance is never guaranteed.
Is AEO different from SEO?
They overlap heavily. SEO helps your pages rank and be indexed, while AEO shapes those pages so an engine can extract a direct answer. Most businesses benefit from doing both together.
Can anyone guarantee I will be mentioned by ChatGPT or Perplexity?
No. AI answers vary by prompt, model and day. A trustworthy provider will promise better pages, clearer signals and honest measurement, not a guaranteed mention.
Do I need special files or markup for AI search?
No. Google states you do not need new machine-readable files, AI text files or special schema.org markup to appear in its AI features. Structured data is still worth adding where it accurately matches the visible content.
